800H / 800HT Nickel Bar, Rod, and Wire

Nickel Alloy 800H/800HT bar, rod, and wire are nickel-iron-chromium alloys that provide high strength an excellent resistance to oxidation and carburization at high temperatures. They also offer excellent resistance in many aqueous environments. Their nickel content makes the alloys highly resistant to both chloride and stress-corrosion cracking. Alloy 800H and Alloy 800HT are identical except for the higher level of carbon in Alloy 800H, and the addition of up to 1.00 percent aluminum and titanium in Alloy 800HT.

Features:

  • High creep and rupture strength
  • Excellent resistance to oxidation due to high chromium and nickel content
  • Good resistance to carburizing environments
  • Good resistance to many sulfur-containing environments
  • Good weldability

Applications:

  • Industrial heating (radiant tubes, muffles, retorts, assorted furnace fixtures)
  • Power generation
  • Heat Exchangers
  • A wide range of additional applications involving long-term exposure to elevated temperatures and corrosive atmospheres
  • Pressure vessels

Corrosion Resistance:

The chromium and nickel content of Nickel Alloy 800H/HT are higher than that of the familiar 304 stainless steel alloy. Under many conditions of service, performance of Nickel Alloy is similar. For example, comparable behavior can be expected in most rural and industrial atmospheres and in chemical media such as nitric acid and organic acids. Neither alloy is suggested for sulfuric acid service except at lower concentrations and temperatures. Like the austenitic stainless steels, Nickel Alloy 800H/HT are subject to sensitization (precipitation of chromium carbides at grain boundaries) if heated for excessive time in the 1000-1400°F temperature range. The sensitized metal may be subject to intergranular attack by certain corrosive agents, including pickling acids or the boiling 65-percent nitric acids (Huey) test.
