Two acquisitions have strengthened TW Metals' ability to provide a full range of products and services to a global customer base.
TW Metals expanded its customer service capabilities with the September 1998 acquisition of TD Materials, Inc. — one of the largest aircraft aluminum extrusion distributors in the world with a proven commitment to customer service.
TD Materials was established in 1937 soon after the first DC-3 took to the skies. TD Materials has grown with the aircraft/aerospace industry and is one of the world's largest distributors of quality aluminum extrusions in both hard and soft alloys. With facilities strategically located across the US and an extensive inventory, TD Materials is able to ensure prompt delivery of products when and where customers need them. TD Materials maintains over four million pounds of "off the shelf" material for Boeing, Lockheed, McDonnell Douglas and European manufacturers, as well as military and other aircraft extrusions, and many commercial extrusions.
TD Materials' 60 years of industry expertise — backed by strong standards of quality, service and competitiveness — has provided an excellent addition to the TW Metals team. This strategic combination has enhanced our strong position as a premier distributor in the aerospace, commercial and automotive industries.
Philip Cornes Group
In October 1998, TW Metals further expanded its capabilities with the acquisition of Philip Cornes Group, a UK-based processor and distributor of nickel and super alloys, serving customers in the oil, gas, petrochemical and heat treatment industries.
Founded over 35 years ago and headquartered near Birmingham, UK, Philip Cornes specializes in the supply of nickel alloys, and heat and corrosion resistant materials. Philip Cornes carries one of the largest inventories of nickel alloys in the world. A hallmark of Philip Cornes' success is the group's growing worldwide expansion. In the last two and a half decades, the company has expanded to include Philip Cornes International (Brussels, Belgium) and Philip Cornes South East Asia (Singapore). To complete their global coverage, a special export department was formed at the UK Headquarters to support business from the Middle East, South America, Africa, India and other locations not covered by existing offices.
The teaming of Philip Cornes' global frontier and widely respected name with TW Metals has created a partnership well suited to serve a developing and technologically sophisticated world market.
